IN CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Hiro Nakamura
Canon: Heroes
COU/AU/OC: OU
Canon Point: The end of Volume 5
History: Wiki article.
Personality:
When one first sees Hiro Nakamura, he's very true-hearted. He has superpowers, and upon first discovering them, embraced them and decided to become a superhero. He dislikes doing things for personal gain and would shudder to think of using his abilities for evil. He's stated many times that he's good and others should be good, too. However, he's wary of his abilities, knowing that they can sometimes cause strife, and now judges on when he should use them on a case-by-case basis. He gained this new-found wariness when he last encountered an old, happy girlfriend. If he rescued her from the past, then what she has now would disappear, and he thus chose not to.
On the other hand... Hiro's a complete dork. He often sticks his nose into video games and comic books, reading them with enthusiasm, and knows a lot about video games, cartoons, anime, movies, etc. He frequently makes references to them in normal, everyday conversation and may even be a little too obsessed with them. Adding on to his dorkish side is the fact that he needs to be frequently told to censor himself, most notably by Flying Man AKA Nathan Petrelli. However, with his obsession of the many things he enjoys comes with savviness of many different genres, following the logic of comic books and video games.
However, there is a sort of arrogance and stiltedness that comes with him. He believes he is a hero, thus it is his job to protect others and get himself into danger. He thinks he is more important because he has superpowers, as is everyone else who has them. His ego can sometimes get in the way and he has known to argue with people about his status as a hero. It can also be hard to talk to him sometimes as his knowledge of nerd stuff can trip up the uninformed. Hiro is also often judgmental of people, calling people evil when they don't want to help. He called Nathan out when he was going to let New York explode, he called out Daphne as a thief, and he even said that Sylar would die alone and lonely.
Most of his personality was unchanged overtime, but he was once naive and often flip-flopped on what should and should not be done. He once traveled through time without concequence, then changed his mind to say that he would never travel back in time again before traveling back in time and being okay with it. Then he went on to say that the past is off-limits yet again before deciding to go back in time to right every wrong that happened in his life as he was dying. This eventually culminated in his choice to actually think about when he should go back in time. He had also grew more experienced and less reliant on his powers, having gone multiple times with his powers being taken away from him or generally useless.
Strengths:
Hiro Nakamura has access to a narrow yet powerful range of superpowers. The first part of his powers are time-based. He's able to slow time down so that it appears that time has frozen in place. Those with super speed can be immune to this ability, "catching up" to how fast he's moving. But he can generally use this ability to get himself and others out of present danger. He can move objects and people in this timestate. He is also able to bring other people into this timestate through contact and concentration.
He is also able to time travel, both to the future and past. There are no known limits to how far into the future or past he can travel. The furthest he's ever jumped in time is going from 2005 to 1600 feudal Japan. Like his "Timefreeze" ability, he is able to bring people along through contact.
The last part of his abilities is the ability to travel through space. Like his time travel, there are no known limits to this ability, with him having jumped across the world from Japan to New York once. Presumably, he's able to jump to any place in the world, and this ability can be used in conjunction with his time travel ability. Again, he's able to bring people along on the ride with direct contact.
He holds a lot of knowledge of comic books, movies, video games, and other stuff making him savvy to the tropes and genres of them, thus he is able to stay ahead of the game by predicting what would happen if logic followed a video game or cartoon or comic.
Weaknesses:
Hiro Nakamura can be very naive at times, often getting kidnapped or having his powers taken away from him. He was also once mind-regressed into a 5-year-old for his troubles.
He is also unsure of his ability to teleport large numbers of people, requiring Ando to supercharge his superpowers in order to make them work even better than when they are at 100% control and power.
Unlike on Earth, Hiro does not have access to his full amount of powers. For some reason, he is unable to travel through time, and his teleportation is limited to populated cities within a few miles. His "Time Freeze" ability is also limited foe some odd reason, him being able to hold it for 2 minutes before exhaustion starts setting in, the max time limit of 5 minutes.
Possessions:
Pony/Animal Type: Earth Pony
Cutie Mark: A stopwatch
Pony Picture:
SAMPLES
First Person: Dear Mun thread
Third Person:
Hiro Nakamura is a hero, no matter what shape or form he's in. He's also the master of time and space. Well... not so much now as he was in the past. But he's still a hero. And being a hero means helping people. Whether it be in costume on the streets as a masked superhero or as a civilian, helping solve this Pale Pony mystery. However, there's a small problem with that.
He cannot travel back or forward through time anymore, and that really confuses him. Something evil must be suppressing his power, and Hiro must put a stop to it. Since he can't go back in time physically, he'll just have to go back in time metaphorically. He'll just need to pry himself away from the comic book store long enough to research Equestria's past. He'll have to face words that come without intriguing or fun plots and stories. Even no pictures.
He may eventually come to realize that many things happened 1000 years ago, from Nightmare Moon to Discord to The Crystal Empire disappearing and Sombra. He'll treat this as a mystery. A story. Maybe it's time for a new costume. Perhaps a cowl. A dark cowl. One that's influenced by bats. He may need to become Batman: The Master Detective!
